About Debate

The Cornell Forensics Society

We compete in two-person cross-examination policy debate. To prepare for a debate tournament you will have to find a partner and familiarize yourself with the national topic. The Cornell debate squad analyzes the critical issues and prepares arguments for each side. Varsity debaters complete research assignments and help Novices learn more about the activity. Students always compete in divisions with others at their level of experience. You will have to study the affirmative case and be able to defend it. With the help of frequent strategy sessions, you will choose specific negative strategies. To keep all the information organized, you will need to file your copy of the team evidence.
